Vimba Golf Day - A huge success!
On Saturday 27th June, Vimba held its first Golf Day at Traditions Golf course in Surrey. Despite reports of rain showers, the weather played along beautifully with clear blue skies and gorgeous temperatures reaching the late twenties. The day started with the first four ball teeing off at 11:00 followed by 6 other very enthusiastic four balls. The mixture of excitement, anticipation and even some tension was palpable as the teams lined up to tee off. The teams went round this beautiful course with gusto, topping up with regular refreshments from the very welcome drinks cart, whilst our photographer for the day - Bradley Fijac - caught all the action on film. Such was his affect on the golfers that he soon became known as the ‘lucky charm’ as his presence magically transformed these amateur golfers to consummate professionals in front of the camera!
The competition paused briefly after the first nine holes as the golfers came off the course to enjoy the much anticipated rugby game between the Springboks and Lions. After much banter, cheering and chewed nails the golfers hit the back nine with a vengeance and arrived at the 19th hole to a splendid barbeque laid out by the Traditions team, which proved to be the perfect end to a fantastic round of golf. The last item on the agenda was the prize giving, with the Vimba team being inundated with prizes from many generous sponsors. Not only were there prizes for the best player, pair and four ball but also for those players who spent much of their time in the bunkers, water and out of bounds!
We would like to say congratulations to all the players on a great day of golf, notably:
Simon Clur, who was the best individual on the day.![]()
Benjamin Newson and Graham Du Plessis, who were the winning pair.![]()
The winning fourball: Simon Clur, Jonathon McGovern, Kyle McDonald and Zane Smith.
And lastly Murray Barras, Dieter Veenstra, Travis Robertson and Pierre Dupreez won the best dressed fourball, their Vimba golf day shirts were fantastic and hugely appreciated.![]()
The day was a huge success and was thoroughly enjoyed by all the golfers and supporters that participated. Some £500 was raised during the day, which will be used for the child feeding centres that Vimba will be helping to establish throughout Zimbabwe. Without the generous support of the players, Traditions Golf Club and the various sponsors and our loyal supporters this would not have been possible and the Vimba team would like to express their sincere gratitude to all those involved in the day. We look forward to this becoming an annual event and it growing from strength to strength.
