VIMBA GOLF DAY 2010

The second annual Vimba golf day was held on Saturday 19 June 2010 at Surrey National Golf Course and the general consensus was that the day was a resounding success! An unprecedented 14 four balls took part in the day hosted at one of Surrey’s finest golf courses. Despite the English summer weather letting us down a splendid day was had by all with Jon McGovern and Kyle McDonald taking the top honours by winning the pairs competition. The quality of golf was top drawer with an array of golfers taking full advantage of a course that was in pristine condition. A special thank you needs to be given to Caroline and her team at the Surrey National who were the most generous and accommodating of hosts. Another massive thank you needs to go out to the corporate sponsors for the day 36 South and Exchange4Free who provided a much appreciated financial injection for our fund raising efforts. After a display of golf that would have made Tiger Woods envious the evening was capped off with a dinner and prize giving. Much merriment endured as the highlights and tales of the day were regaled as the prizes, both serious and humorous, were handed out to players ranging from closest to the pin to most balls lost for the day. An unprecedented amount of money was raised as the generosity of those playing was remarkable and will certainly go a long way to ensuring the feeding centres move from strength to strength. Our appreciation is extended to not only the many sponsors but also to the players themselves who approached the day with gusto and ensured that it was yet another fruitful and worthwhile event that will go a long way in ensuring that the lives of those less fortunate in Zimbabwe will be improved.
