Vimba goes to Perth, Australia!
Norman Disney Young (NDY) Poker night
26 October 2009

NDY, an engineering firm in Perth put on pizza and drinks for the staff poker night in association with Vimba (for a minimal donation of $10 each) plus an extra $5 for all staff who wanted to play poker.
All in all there were 32 staff who turned up to play. There were 4 tables set up of 8 players each. The top 4 winners of each of the 4 tables went onto the semi-finals round after an hour’s play, then the top 4 from each of the 2 tables went onto the finals after a timed hour’s play. Poker-for-beginners classes were run on the Thurs and Friday lunch time before the event in the NDY lunch room before the big tournament, to get those unfamiliar with the game up to speed. There were also “cheat sheets” made up for all players, should they need to know the definition of such hands as “royal flush”, “straight”, “full house”, etc.
The winners at the end of the night were:
1 - Samantha Van Reenen
2 - Nic Spina
3 - Dave Buttle
The night finished up around midnight in true NDY style with the Director whipping out the scotch and most people unable to stand afterward.
It was a really enjoyable evening and everyone really enjoyed the poker and would do it again soon. It was a great bonding opportunity for staff as well as managers and colleagues all sat down on level playing fields. Reading one another and gauging who had a better poker-face than the next person.
The night was a huge success and raised over A$1000 which NDY kindly donated to Vimba. This donation will be going towards our childrens feeding centre initiative (more...)
