Mel's Cafe, Earlsfield, in aid of
Come Unto Me Centre
We held our first fundraising event in November 2007 At Mel’s Café in Earlsfield. Mel kindly opened out her restaurant for us to use on the night. The evening was a huge success and we managed to raise just short of £3,000! We had very kind donations of a photographic peice from an up and coming Australian Photographic artist, Rossanne Pellegrino as well as an african painting donated by Jenny Whalley, these were both autioned off on the night, with all the proceeds going to the charity.
The proceeds from this event managed to buy us 10,000kg CSB,which is corn-soya blend – a mix of maize, meal and soya flour, vitamins and sugar widely used in emergency feeding around the world as well as 10,000kg Mahewu powder (this is a fermented maize meal). Together this will feed the 90 children in the orphanage for up to a year.
We decided to donate this to the Come Unto Me Centre for children, Karoi, just outside of Harare. The delivery and correspondence was all handled by our contact in Zimbabwe.
