Bar 366, Earlsfield in aid of the
Adonis Musati Project
Vimba’s Summer Sizzler was a great success, 120 people came along to support us! Everyone enjoyed the great weather, a boerie roll and a few drinks! This event was held at Bar 366 in Earlsfield on the afternoon of Saturday 26th of April 2008. We had boerie rolls on sale and South African snacks available. We also sold raffle tickets and the prizes included a great poker set and some Liverpool paraphernalia donated by Kirsty Sclanders, a bottle of sparkling wine donated by Bar 366 and a huge hamper of South African treats from The SAvanna. The SAvannah also provided us with boerewors for the braai. We would like to express our tremendous gratitude to these sponsors, Thank you so much, your support is much appreciated.
All the money raised at this event will go directly to the Adonis Musati Project. This project is based in Cape Town, South Africa and they provide food and clothing to the refuges forced to live outside the Home Affairs office. The project is named after Adonis Musati who was forced to move to South Africa to look for work in order to support his family. He spent a month living outside the Home Affairs Office in Cape Town and was trying to get a work permit so that he could look for work. He had nothing to eat and was sleeping in a cardboard box. On Friday, 2nd November 2007 he collapsed and died. The autopsy showed that the cause of death was starvation.
Refugees like Adonis are forced to sleep on the pavement. They are unable to get food as If they leave this area, they are arrested by the police and deported back to the countries they have fled. The Project also provides sends these refugees on training courses so that once they have attained their work permits they are able to gain employment. They will then be able to send money back to their families. Thus helping one refugee in Cape Town also helps support many more people back in their countries.
This is a great cause and we are so grateful for everyone who came along to support us. Your kind donations and attendance at events is much appreciated. Without your support we would not be able to help these people.
With thanks again to The SAvanna for their kind donations and sponsorship.
