Vimba 2010 Masquerade Ball
Our Summer Masquerade Ball 2010 was a roaring success. Vimba welcomed over 150 guests to the beautiful 5 star Grange Hotel in Tower Hill, London. The champagne reception was set in the Piazza to a backdrop of a piece of the original London wall. Whilst masks and gowns were admired, the Foundation Jonas choir rendered some beautiful African songs.
Once seated in the beautiful auditorium, guests were welcomed by MC and Vimba’s Head of Sponsorship James McDowell, after which he introduced our guest speaker, Wilf Mbanga. Wilf is the founder and editor of the Zimbabwean newspaper and has been an ambassador for freedom of speech across Zimbabwe and the world, for over a decade. A great silence fell over the room as Wilf captured our hearts and minds by painting a picture of the crisis in Zimbabwe, he ended his speech however with the resounding belief that vimba or hope still exists. Vimba was honoured to have such a wonderful and proud Zimbabwean speak at our ball.
A delicious dinner commenced and guests were told about what Vimba has achieved to date and our goals for the future. The excitement was palpable as the auction started and eager bidders raised their hand for their desired pieces of art, holidays and sporting game tickets. Blue Attic Band then carried the night away as the dance floor was never empty as people’s dancing shoes were put on and singing voices displayed.
All in all it was a fantastic night where Zimbabweans and friends of Zimbabwe came together to show their solidarity and support for a country whose beautiful land and wonderful people are world renowned.
Thank you so much to everyone who gave up their time, expertise and generous donations to make the night the great success it was. We could not have done it without you.
